Toro Z Master 4000 blades by deck size

Always replace blades as a set and check the spindle and blade drive sheave (138-6060) $36.92 while the deck is up — the sheave is one of the top replacement parts on 4000 decks from our service department's repair records.

Deck belts and pump belts

Z Master 4000 deck belts vary by deck width and year. The 72" MyRIDE (74024) uses 145-1940 $247.14. Many 52" and 60" models use the 140-7994 hydro pump drive belt $70.90 for the traction drive. Because 4000 deck belts changed across serial ranges, look up your exact model and serial in Parts for My Machine before ordering.

From our service department's repair records, the parts that wear out most on 4000 Series machines are:

Engine filters on the Z Master 4000

Most 4000s run Kawasaki FX-series engines (852cc and 999cc). Toro's parts lists show air filter elements 119-5944/119-5945, fuel filter 142-6949 and Kawasaki oil filter KW10761 on several models. For Kawasaki's own numbers and the plug, see our FX850V maintenance guide. For oil filters, the Rotary 12864 $14.80 Kawasaki replacement is the one we install most on 4000s.

End-of-season checklist for a Z Master 4000

  1. Blades sharpened or replaced (as a set); check spindles for play.
  2. Inspect deck and pump belts, idlers and idler pivots.
  3. Engine oil, oil filter, air elements, fuel filter, plugs.
  4. Hydro fluid and filter per the manual's hours.
  5. Grease caster and spindle fittings; check caster wheel bearings.

Which Z Master 4000 do I have?

Look for the model number on the frame tag under the seat. 740xx numbers cover several generations and engines (852cc, 999cc) and deck sizes (52", 60", 72"). The model plus serial number is what decides belts, blades and filters.
