Toro Hypr-Oil 500: Sizes, Part Numbers & the Hydro Filters to Change With It
Posted by Outdoor Power LLC Service Team on
Hypr-Oil 500 is Toro's hydraulic fluid approved by Toro engineering for its commercial zero-turn mowers. Order 114-4713 $21.71 (quart), 114-4714 $86.92 (gallon) or 114-4715 $270.89 (5 gallon) — and change the hydro filter at the same time. The right filter depends on your mower; the table above covers the common Toro families.

Why the hydro service matters
On a zero-turn, the hydrostatic drive is the most expensive system to replace. Old, heat-broken fluid and a loaded filter are the slow killers: the mower gets sluggish when hot, one side gets weaker, then it stops climbing hills. Hypr-Oil 500 shows up repeatedly on Toro Z Master 4000 and Titan repair orders from our service department's repair records, usually alongside a filter kit.
How much Hypr-Oil 500 do I need?
Capacity and change interval vary by machine and drive system, so use your operator's manual for your model and serial number. As a rule of thumb from the shop: a full service on a two-pump/two-motor commercial system usually takes the gallon, and a quart is handy for topping off after a filter change.
Which hydro filter fits my Toro?
Our parts lists for Toro mowers show these hydro filters most often:
- Toro 117-0390 $53.80 — Z Master 3000, 5000 and 6000 Series (it appears on 25 of the Z Master models in our parts data). The Rotary 15907 $19.19 is the aftermarket replacement.
- Toro 109-3321 $39.90 — Hydro-Gear filter on many Titan, TimeCutter and Z Master 2000 models (listed on 24 Titan models alone).
- Toro 67-8110 $48.03 — Z Master 7000 diesel; Oregon 83-012 $27.30 replaces it.
- Rotary 16018 $13.38 — a Hydro-Gear transmission filter kit we install on Z Master 4000 machines (8 repair orders from our service department's repair records).
Not sure which applies? Look up your exact model and serial in Parts for My Machine — it lists the hydro filter for your serial range.
Hydro service steps (overview)
- Park level, engage the parking brake, let the system cool.
- Clean around the reservoir and filters before opening anything — dirt is the enemy.
- Drain per your manual, replace the filter(s), refill with Hypr-Oil 500.
- Purge air: with the drive release valves open and the rear wheels off the ground, run the levers slowly forward and reverse per the manual's purge procedure.
- Recheck level after the purge and after the first mow.
Signs your hydro needs service
- The mower drives fine cold but slows or won't climb hills when hot.
- One side gets weaker as the day goes on.
- Whining from the pumps, or the fluid looks dark or milky in the reservoir.
- You don't know when it was last changed — on a used commercial mower, assume it's due.
Common mistakes
- Not purging the air. Air trapped in the system makes the mower creep, jerk or feel weak after a fluid change. Follow the purge procedure in your manual.
- Opening the system dirty. A pinch of grit in a hydro pump does more harm than old fluid. Clean first.
- Mixing fluids without checking. Use the fluid your manual specifies for your drive system.
- Changing fluid without the filter. The filter holds the contamination — always change both.
Fleet tip
If you run several Z Masters, a 5-gallon pail $270.89 plus a few spare 117-0390 $53.80 or 109-3321 $39.90 filters covers a season of hydro services for a small fleet.
