Kawasaki FX730V Oil Filter, Air Filter & Spark Plug: Maintenance Parts Guide

Posted by Outdoor Power LLC Service Team on

The Kawasaki FX730V is the 726cc V-twin that powers a lot of commercial zero-turns. The short answer for a routine service: a Kawasaki 49065-7007 oil filter $18.48, two NGK BPR4ES spark plugs $6.21, and the correct air filter element for your engine's spec number. Everything below explains how to get each one right the first time.

Kawasaki FX730V oil filter: 49065-7007

The genuine Kawasaki oil filter for the FX730V is 49065-7007. It's the same filter Kawasaki uses on the FR691V, FR730V and several FS-series engines, which is why it shows up in so many tune-up kits. If you run a mixed fleet, it's one of the most useful filters to keep on the shelf.

Oil filters are among the parts we install most often on zero-turns from our service department's repair records — across zero-turn work orders, oil and filter changes are the single most common reason a machine comes in. Change the filter every time you change the oil; a fresh filter costs less than one hour of a commercial mower's downtime.

FX730V spark plug: NGK BPR4ES

The FX730V takes two NGK BPR4ES plugs — one per cylinder. Replace them as a pair. A fouled plug on one cylinder makes a V-twin run rough, lose power under load and burn more fuel, and it's often mistaken for a carburetor problem.

FX730V air filter: check your spec number first

This is where most wrong orders happen. Kawasaki uses different air cleaner setups across FX730V specifications (the suffix after the model, like AS04 or AS40). Many FX730V engines use the dual-element set 11013-7044 $32.78 and 11013-7045 $34.13, while others use different elements. Before you order:

  • Read the full model and spec number from the engine decal (for example FX730V-AS04).
  • If the engine is on a Toro or other OEM mower, look the machine up in our Parts for My Machine tool — mower manufacturers often sell the same Kawasaki element under their own part number.
  • Replace inner and outer elements together if your engine uses both.

FX730V parts on Toro mowers

Toro sells Kawasaki service parts under Toro numbers. On a Toro 2000 Series 60" with the 726cc engine (model 77294), for example, the parts list shows fuel filter 142-6949 (Kawasaki 49019-0031), air filter elements 119-5944 and 119-5945, oil filter 119-5852 and spark plug 92-2153. If you know your Toro model number, our machine lookup lists every part for your serial range.

Fuel filter and oil

Kawasaki's inline fuel filter 49019-0031 $12.73 is used on many FX-series mowers. A partly plugged fuel filter is a classic cause of a mower that starts fine, then loses power or dies under load. For oil, use the grade your operator's manual specifies; Kawasaki's own 10W-40 $14.01 and 20W-50 $13.25 are both available.

A simple FX730V service checklist

  1. Warm the engine briefly, shut it off and remove the key.
  2. Drain the oil and replace the oil filter (pre-fill and lube the gasket).
  3. Refill to the dipstick's full mark with the oil grade in your manual.
  4. Replace both spark plugs and inspect plug wires and boots.
  5. Inspect and replace the air filter element(s); clean the housing.
  6. Replace the inline fuel filter and check fuel lines for cracks.

Signs your FX730V is overdue for service

  • Hard starting or a miss under load — usually plugs or a restricted fuel filter.
  • Black smoke or a sooty exhaust — a loaded air filter making the engine run rich.
  • Oil that's black and thin on the dipstick — change it; heat breaks oil down fastest in summer mowing.
  • Surging at full throttle — fuel delivery (filter, pump, or a varnished carburetor).

Common mistakes we see

  • Ordering an air filter by engine model alone. The spec suffix decides it — read the whole decal.
  • Replacing only one spark plug on a V-twin. Always do both.
  • Over-tightening the oil filter with a wrench. Hand-tight per the instructions on the filter is right.
  • Skipping the cooling fins. A V-twin packed with clippings runs hot and wears out early no matter how fresh the oil is.

Aftermarket or genuine Kawasaki?

For oil filters, both work when the fit and bypass spec match; we stock genuine Kawasaki filters and Rotary replacements such as the Rotary 12861 $12.41. For air filters on dusty commercial work, we recommend genuine elements — the seal and pleat quality matter more than the price difference.
